Challenge – Bates Creative has designed the YMCA of Metropolitan Washington’s (YMCADC) Annual Report since 2010. When it came time to discuss the strategy for the 2015 Annual Report, our teams were ready to create a new look and feel for the Annual Report microsite. YMCADC unveiled the theme “Beyond the Bricks” for the 2015 Annual Report, which is a reflection of the nonprofit’s emphasis on not letting its walls define the organization and its success.
Solution – After learning more about the YMCADC’s goals for the 2015 Annual Report, Bates Creative designed the website to mirror the “Beyond the Bricks” theme. The website design leverages a bold, colorful brick pattern to highlight the various areas of information that the YMCADC communicates through the Report. The typography and color palette are pulled from the YMCA brand style guide and are used to create an energetic online environment for visitors to browse through the varying areas of content. This brick pattern design also lends itself to an infographic feel, making it easy for visitors to quickly interact with the content they find most relevant to them. The responsively designed 2015 Annual Report website explores all that YMCADC does beyond its walls, through its expansive partnerships and neighborhood-based Y services. The updated microsite also doubles as a presentation tool for YMCADC when needed.
