Challenge: EA Journal is the flagship bi-monthly publication of the National Association of Enrolled Agents (NAEA), a national association of more than 11,000 independent, licensed tax professionals dedicated to the highest level of knowledge and professionalism in all areas of taxation. The prestigious publication features best practices in tax law, new industry developments and advocacy. Because NAEA members are required to complete a minimum of 30 hours in continuing education for tax practices each year to maintain NAEA membership, the magazine offers low-cost, convenient ways for enrolled agents to earn credits in each issue. While the content is very technical to the tax industry, NAEA wanted the creative drive of a design agency to create and deliver conceptual ideas to add appeal to the tax industry.
Solution: Bates Creative has been designing EA Journal from cover to cover since 2006. The design approaches taxation with a symbolic, conceptual and out-of-the-box approach to add an aesthetic frame for the content. EA Journal provides NAEA members with up-to-date guidance on the most recent taxation developments with a design that displays the latest innovations in the design industry. Flipping through the pages, readers will experience mixed media designs including illustrations and photography. To this day, Bates Creative continues to drive modern innovation to a profession that has existed since the 1800s.
