Marines Magazine Redesign

Challenge – As the official publication of the United States Marine Corps, the print edition of Marines magazine was shipped to enlisted troops around the globe. The U.S. Marine Corps sought to improve the publication in a way that would engage the Marines in the field by sharing stories that would make them proud to be a Marine.

Solution – We began the magazine redesign by conducting reader research and developing a content strategy that would appeal to a younger audience. We breathed life into the printed pages through bold typography and engaging photography. We are extremely proud that Marines magazine is a multiple award-winner for design, including four-time recipient of the Thomas Jefferson Outstanding Flagship Publication Award, given by the Department of Defense in its military publication competition.

“Marines magazine has benefitted from the hard work and dedication of Bates Creative for ten years. The motivated staff at Bates Creative consistently exceeds our expectations and continues to raise the bar for layout, design, and creative solutions for every task they are provided.”

– Greg Reeder, Former Editor-in-Chief, Marines Magazine
