Challenge: The Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) is a professional association of more than 35,000 oncology nurses committed to promoting excellence in oncology nursing and the transformation of cancer care. ONS publishes the Clinical Journal of Oncology Nursing (CJON) and Oncology Nursing Forum (ONF), along with eBooks to provide members with evidence-based practice to help further their mission. ONS previously used website platform Metapress for its publication website, which the organization found to be outdated, frustrating for users and non-responsive. ONS sought a more engaging design and optimized user experience for the publications’ web presence.
Solution: ONS tapped Bates Creative to redesign the publication website with web development partner Unleashed Technologies. Our team utilized the Drupal content management platform for the redesigned website to coincide with ONS.org, which was previously launched in the Drupal platform. Bates Creative used a mobile-first design approach to create a single theme with graphic options to create a unified user experience across the various content and publication areas. This approach allows for the user to become accustomed to both the visual navigation and the associated functionality of the new website. The redesigned website not only enables ONS members to easily search and purchase the publications they need to access, but also reflects the prestige of ONS, which is considered the gold standard in oncology nursing.
