Challenge – Over the past three years Bates Creative has designed the YMCA of Metropolitan Washington’s (YMCADC) Annual Report, which has evolved from a print only solution to a web-based solution. When it came time to discuss the strategy for the 2013 Annual Report, our teams were ready to create a new look and feel for the Annual Report website. Since the YMCADC heavily relies on volunteers, donors and sponsors, its team knew an emotionally driven website was needed to draw in this audience.
Solution – After hearing more about the YMCADC’s goals for the 2013 Annual Report, we agreed on the approach of using large and impacting photography to drive the design of the website, which would appeal to donors and sponsors. The design of the homepage screen gives visitors the feeling of entering the YMCA and ties in nicely with the 2013 theme, “The Road of Responsibility.” Colors pulled from the brand’s main color palette help differentiate the content for easy navigation. The website is responsively designed and when accessed from a mobile device, the interface closely resembles a mobile app. The 2013 Annual Report website features a very modern and clean design and offers a seamless user experience with the ability to full-screen toggle through the content, doubling as a presentation tool when needed.
